Team (m)Bracing the Cure:  Giving the Mitchell Way

Mitchell’s (m)Bracing the Cure team emerged initially out of a departmental team building activity.

As enthusiasm about the department’s participation for Race for the Cure grew to include colleagues across the Company, Mitchell decided to become an official sponsor. Mitchell employees care deeply about volunteerism and participating in charitable works, and are continuously seeking opportunities to give back to the community.

(m)Bracing the Cure was founded in 2012, is composed of almost 100 members and is made up of Mitchell International employees, friends, and family. They encourage all employees to participate in any way they can, be it running or walking at the Race for the Cure event, participating in fundraising activities, or making monetary donations.  This year, the Team has every intention of earning $8,000 in support of breast cancer research and treatment.

Sue Speed, Team Captain, is a breast cancer survivor.  Many of (m)Bracing the Cure’s members have been personally impacted by breast cancer with friends and family who are survivors, currently battling the disease or have lost their fight to cancer. As an organization that promotes health and well-being in their employees, Mitchell strives to bring awareness and support to prevention.

Mitchell is fortunate to have an executive leadership team that supports their initiatives. Mitchell’s President and CEO, Alex Sun, took the time to recognize and support employees’ efforts by speaking at their kick-off rally. In addition, representatives of the local San Diego chapter of Susan G, Komen visited the headquarters to talk about the 5k and share stories on the impact our donations can have in our community and the lives those funds can and have changed. The leadership team was in attendance and even wore pink to support awareness at the rally, where we promoted the raffles, penny wars, cooking events, and other activities to draw attention to their (m)Bracing the Cure team. Team members also maintain updates in the internal company newsletter, have displays around Mitchell campus, and encourage current and past team members to recruit new team members.

In true Mitchell spirit, the entire executive team joined in solidarity and celebration of the cause by all wearing pink to show their support. They managed to raise about $1,000.00 in a week as a great example of Giving the Mitchell Way. Thank you, Team, (m)Bracing the Cure for showing us how it’s done!!
