Team LJBTC, Inc.:  La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, Exercising Towards a Cure

For several years LJBTC, Inc. has prepared, decorated, and staffed a cheering/water/snack station for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk in front of the La Jolla Shores Hotel.  During the 3-Day Walk in 2010 they became so energized by the positivity and support that it was decided to create a team for the 2011 Race for the Cure event.  Three years later, according to Suzy Clayton, the Team Captain, “We still enjoy waking up early, spending race day together, being active together, and supporting an important cause together.”  The team is officially 21 members strong, but this year their goal is to accumulate a team of 50!

Team LJBTC is comprised of LJBTC, Inc. employees and their loved ones.  Captain Sparks reports that, “We are more like a family than coworkers with positions in all departments including Human Resources, Catering, Accounting, Group Sales, Security, Beach Services, Ambassador/Bellstaff, Tennis Shop Sales, Marketing, Front Desk, PBX Operator, Marine Room, and more!”  What an eclectic collection of team members, all of whom have been affected by breast cancer.  Some have lost a friend or family member while others share stories of someone currently undergoing treatment or recovery.  Clayton proudly states, “This common bond has helped to bring us together to share our love and support and Race for the Cure!  Our team has always been small but mighty in achieving our recruitment goals.  Word of mouth within our company has helped us to steadily increase our numbers.  We are hoping to reach 50 participants this year!”  Now, that’s the spirit!  Strength in numbers, and breast cancer patients throughout the county of San Diego appreciate your strength, generosity and courage to fight this horrible disease.

We at The Susan G. Komen San Diego Affiliate, we want to thank Team LJBTC for being such a pillar of hope that this disease will someday be a thing of the past.
