Irene Oberbauer, or IO, cleverly named her team IO It to Myself. . . . and she does!  Irene is not only a Board Member for the Susan G. Komen San Diego Affiliate, she is also the Race for the Cure Top fundraiser, a breast cancer survivor, and Chair of the Grants Committee.  Devoting herself to helping others with breast cancer and ultimately finding a cure, Irene has put the pedal to the metal every year since 2010 raising over $29,000 last year alone.

Former employees of Irene’s, family and friends all join forces totaling 120+ team mates on IO It to Myself!  It’s size is a true testament to everyone’s love for Irene and commitment to her health and the treatment of uninsured breast cancer patients here in San Diego.

When it comes to fundraising, Irene and her team will leave no stone unturned.  “We try EVERYTHING,” says Oberbauer.  They use Facebook, approach retail stores for donations, distribute a newsletter and even host a Flamingo Night which generated over $11,000 last year.  Great use of the color pink!

When asked her most favorite Race memory thus far, Irene proudly recalled being on stage with her family and friends and being awarded Honorary Survivor of the Year, and deservedly so!  To our dear IO It to Myself team members, we at Komen San Diego salute your formation of such a big, strong team and thank you kindly for all the money you have raised over the years.  The impact you have had on uninsured breast cancer patients in San Diego is immeasurable, and we are even closer to a cure thanks to you.  We love you!
