Susan G. Komen San Diego Hosts Health Equity Luncheon

Susan G. Komen San Diego hosted a Health Equity Luncheon on Saturday, December 7th, as part of our Health Equity Initiative.

It is unacceptable that African American women have a 40% higher mortality rate from breast cancer than White women, and Komen San Diego’s Health Equity Initiative, entering into its sixth year, aims to combat this.

Our Health Equity Luncheon encompassed a round table of patients, physicians, and clinical trial experts who discussed the numerous breast cancer disparities facing our community, in order to strengthen community partnerships and collectively catalyze health equity in San Diego.

Denise Green, Field Representative for California State Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber, delivered opening remarks.

The expert panel featured Komen San Diego Board Member and Honorary Breast Cancer Survivor, Lilian A. Vanvieldt-Gray, Dr. Kelly O. Elmore, M.D., Obstetrics and Gynecologist, Viva Life Health Hub, and Dr. Coleman Obasaju, M.D. Ph.D., Senior Medical Director, Lilly Oncology & Global Leader for Diversity in Clinical Research, Eli Lilly and Company.
