“4 Reasons Why I Race for the Cure” – Amy Blum

My name is Amy Blum. I am a BRCA positive mother of three. I am a triple negative breast cancer survivor with a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. I am a walker in the Race for the Cure. And a fundraiser for Komen San Diego.

Since my diagnosis 10 years ago, I have walked in every Race for the Cure. I’ve walked in celebration of my health, in memory of my mother who died of breast cancer, and in support of the women I know who have been diagnosed.

1. I support Komen because breast cancer has tragically been a part of my family’s history. My grandmother survived breast cancer. After three bouts, my mother did not.

2.I support Komen because I benefited from early detection and the excellent care that every women should have available to her.

3. I support Komen because of the newly diagnosed friends, colleagues, neighbors and strangers I have spoken with over the past 10 years, reassuring them this is NOT a death sentence and that thankfully we live in a time when treatment options are available. I share that they are in training to help the next person who is diagnosed and fearing for her life. Because, sadly, there always is that next person.

4. I support Komen because frankly, it’s easy. If you don’t want to ask for donations, then simply post on social media. Share that you’re walking. That you’re supporting. And that you care. You’ll be amazed how many others do as well.

Ask your friends, family and co-workers to join you in the fight. Register today and log into your fundraising portal

From my family to yours, thank you for your support and we hope to see you on Race Day.
