Susan G. Komen Community Grants Program
Susan G. Komen San Diego’s Community Grants program is made possible through individual donations, corporate support, and events such as the San Diego Race for the Cure. With the funds raised, community grants are made to support evidence-based strategies or promising practices to reduce disparities in breast cancer mortality in our community. The Komen San Diego Community Grants program is devised to meet the needs and bridge the gaps discovered through the Community Profile. The Community Profile is a local needs assessment conducted by our local Affiliate. The goal of the Community Profile is to identify gaps in services, improve breast health services and be more aware of populations most in need of breast health services.
Komen San Diego continues to be the largest funder of breast cancer resources in the county for every step of the breast cancer journey. Through its 2016-2017 community grants, Komen San Diego is investing $800,000 in education, screening, diagnostics, mobile mammography, care coordination, and treatment support programs such as financial assistance, patient navigation, meal delivery, etc. here in San Diego County. In 2016, 8 local organizations are being funded by Komen San Diego to provide these programs to serve uninsured/underinsured and underserved residents in the service area. Since the first Race for the Cure in 1995, Komen San Diego has invested more than $13 million in free local breast health resources.
