5K & 1 Mile Walk/Run

Sunday, November 6, 2016 8 a.m. San Diego’s Balboa Park The Race start, finish and the pre- and post-event activities take place on the west side of Balboa Park. The start line is on 6th Avenue at Palm and the finish line is on Balboa Drive south of Quince. The pre- and post-event activities take place on the grassy area along 6th Avenue between Laurel and Quince.  Click here for a map.

T-shirt/packet pick-up:

Your team captain is responsible for attending one of the packet pickup events to pick up Race T-shirts and bib numbers for all your team members and communicating with you about how she/he will get your items to you and where you will meet on Race day. Individuals not on a team can also plan to attend one of the packet pick up locations to avoid lines on Race Day.

Race Day Timeline:

6:30 a.m. Registration opens
6:30 a.m. Expo opens
6:30 a.m. Survivor Hospitality Tent opens
7:30 a.m. Opening and Survivors Ceremony
8:00 a.m. 5K Run/Walk Starts
~10:00am Closing Ceremonies and awards

Important Note: The Race starts promptly at 8 a.m. – late starters will not be allowed on the course.

Register early and save! (Prices for participating in the 5k and 1 mile are the same. You will be asked to choose which course you’d like during the registration process.)

Sleep in for the Cure $40 Support Komen San Diego from home by registering for Sleep In for the Cure and your T-shirt, bib and door hanger will be mailed to you before the Race. You must register by 10/23/16, so we can ship it out in time.

Timing Chip – $10 Receive an official time and be eligible for age group awards for the 5K only.

Get your T-shirt and bib mailed to you – $20 (Deadline is Friday, October 28)

MTS Day Pass Bus & Trolley- $5.50 The MTS logo will be printed directly on your bib if you purchase — So all you will need is your bib to ride all day of the Race. (You or your captain can pick up your bibs and t-shirts at a packet pickup location in advance of the Race at locations TBA or you can have your package mailed to you for $20.) Online registration will close at midnight on Wednesday  November 2 so that our Race team can get everything together for the Race.

If you can’t make it to Race Day, but you still want to show your support of Komen San Diego, the Sleep In for theCure registration type is perfect for you.  Support Komen San Diego from home register for Sleep In for the Cure and your T-shirt, bib and door hanger will be mailed to you before the Race.  You must register by 10/23/16 so we can ship it out in time.


New and returning volunteers are encouraged to get involved. All volunteers will receive a unique Race volunteer t-shirt! Click here to get registered as a volunteer.

Survivors’ Celebration

Our Survivor’s Celebration begins by the main stage at 7:30 a.m.  Don’t miss this very special celebration featuring our inspirational annual survivor parade, Honorary Survivor ceremony and entertainment.


Emotional. Memorable. Motivational. I AM THE CURE is Komen’s new rallying cry encouraging women and men to take an active role in their breast health. The program speaks to the importance of early detection — the best defense against breast cancer — and provides simple, action-oriented messages that Race participants can take home and put into practice. Listen for the cheers as you walk or run and JOIN IN!

Online Team Registration Deadline
After 5:00 p.m. no one can join your team. They can, however, register online as an individual and walk/run with your team on Race Day.

Deadline to raise $5,000 or get 100 people on your team to secure a team tent.

Team Packet Pickup (Race T-shirts/bibs) Team Packets must be picked up by the Team Captain or a team representative. Check KomenSanDiego.org for last-minute updates and send out final reminders to team members on where to meet on Race day. Online registration closes at midnight on Wed 10/28

Fundraising closes



The 5K & 1-Mile Walk/Run will start on November 6, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. on 6th Avenue at the intersection of Palm St. During the Race.

Areas around the route will be impacted from approx. 6:00 – 11:00 a.m.


6th Avenue from Ivy to Upas 7:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Laurel Street from 5th Ave to El Prado 6:00 – 10:00 a.m.

Balboa Drive from Marston Pt to Upas 6:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Pan American Road from El Prado to Presidents Way 7:45 – 9:30 a.m.

Presidents Way from PanAmerican Road to Park Blvd7:45 – 9:30 a.m.

PARKING: There will be no parking on 6th Ave. starting at 4:00 a.m. from Grape to Upas.

If you are located near the streets mentioned above, you may want to notify friends, family, customers, etc. about possible traffic delays and/or detours.
