07 Jan Breast cancer hits close for former nurse
Former nurse, Cely Arroyo’s story began in March 2014 when she was diagnosed with stage 3 HER2 and metastatic breast cancer shortly after her 61st birthday. Her family was shocked
by this diagnosis because their family has no known history of breast cancer at all. Her daughter, Kristy said, “I later learned how much age influences it.”
“My mom’s very compassionate, strives to care for others, and is not used to being the one on the other side of the nurse’s table. I am forever grateful to those who have dedicated their careers to cancer research, care, and awareness. I don’t know where we would be without it,” said Kristy.
Cely has courageously powered through six chemotherapy treatments and a modified radical mastectomy. She will be starting six weeks of radiation therapy and continue to have infusion treatments for one year.
