SAN DIEGO, February 24, 2009 – The San Diego Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure has appointed Catherine A. Blair and Bethel Weiss Nathan to the organization’s board of directors. As members of the San Diego Women’s Foundation, Blair and Nathan both bring experience and a passion for offering thousands of San Diegans access to quality breast health information, services and treatment.
“Catherine brings 38 years of experience with administrative and strategic planning to the organization, and as a breast cancer survivor, she exemplifies courage, optimism, and a sense of inspiration” said Angie Thieman, president of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, San Diego board of directors. “In addition to her financial acumen, sharp analytic skills and unsurpassed energy, Bethel, a seven-time participant in The Breast Cancer 3 Day, Komen’s 60-mile walk to raise funds for breast cancer treatment, services and research, has personally raised more than $50,000 toward the fight against breast cancer,” added Thieman. “We are privileged to have women with Catherine and Bethel’s dedication to women’s health issues and commitment to community programs join us in our mission to empower women, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.”
Blair has dedicated 11 years to education, serving as high school dean and college counselor at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla. She has also served as the president of the board of directors for the Junior League of San Diego, the executive vice president of the Children’s Hospital Auxiliary board, and was a member of the board of the San Diego Mental Health Association. Blair has also been involved in several community service projects involving United Way of San Diego, Mother’s March, March of Dimes, San Diego Zoo and LEAD San Diego. She received her bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University in journalism, and her masters in psychology and human relations from National University.
Nathan brings more than 16 years of international financial experience to the organization. She is currently chief financial officer, chief operating officer and co-owner of Initial Impression, a San Diego-based full -ervice promotional products company. Prior to that, she spent nine years in the investment banking industry in Tokyo, New York and London. Nathan received her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in political science and Asian studies/Japan, and her MBA in international finance and Japan from Thunderbird School of Global Management.
