Yoplait Program Manager

Irene Lopez is the newest member of the San Diego Komen Affiliate and Program Manager for the Yoplait Initiative “Lids to Save Lives.”  The San Diego Komen Affiliate is only one of six grants nationwide to receive a grant from the Yoplait Organization to explore the barriers to access breast health services for the Latino population.

As Program Manager, Irene has conducted 3 Focus Groups in areas primarily populated with Latina women and is now organizing Mammogram events in partnership with Northgate Markets and other venues where Latina women are known to frequent.  In collaboration with the Cancer Detection Program:  Every Woman Counts, her goal is to reach and educate women 40 and older who have never been screened, and help women access regular screenings. 

Irene has worked with community-based and educational organizations for over 40 years and has spent more than 2 decades in Community Outreach, much of those in the Latino community.  Her knowledge, understanding, and passion for issues affecting the Latino community have made her an invaluable asset to the Susan G, Komen Foundation.

Irene was honored and awarded as a recipient of the 2003 Survivor/Activist by the National Breast Cancer Coalition and  is  presently a member of the Komen Educational Committee, a member of the Dia De La Mujer Latina planning committee, a member of the San Diego Women’s Resource Fair, member of the National Breast Cancer Coalition and a board member of the Cancer Circle Network of Healing.
