I ran my first Race for the Cure – the very first one – in 1995. 10 months later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. So, I made my deal with God. I promised Him that if He got me through this, I would do everything I could to help other women making this journey. I would tell everyone who would listen about the importance of early detection via self-exams and mammograms. I would raise all the money I could to help those who didn’t have health insurance and fund research to find better treatments and the cures for breast cancer. I got involved with Komen as soon as I was able and have done just about everything from Race Volunteer, to chairing events, to Chairing the Board. I also have held positions with Komen HQ like Cause Marketing Training and was a delegate to the Breast Health Summit in Budapest. And, I won't stop working to help those who can't help themselves until we have a Cure!
